Think Snow!

Looks like thery're calling for snow tonight. My son is looking forward to finally being able to go sleding, and of course no school. For us big kids we don't like the snow as much, however we would not mind having a day off either.

Long Island personal trainer

I’ve been a member of koga Fitness Center (70 hits) for over two years. During that time I’ve worked on several occasions with their . Now, at first I was reluctant to hire a trainer —they’re not cheap. However, I’ve found that when I’m working with a trainer I’m a lot more motivated and I train harder. In other words, it makes my workouts more efficient.

Also, a good trainer helps you plan your workouts on the days when you’re not working with them. This allows you the have the benefit of a trainer even though you’re working out alone.

Another reason that trainers are important is they help you use the equipment properly. Part of their job is to insure that you’re not using too much weight or training too hard. You don’t want to hurt yourself. No, working with the trainer was one of the best investments I’ve made in helping stave off middle age. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to get physically fit.

Oh and if you’re looking for a physical trainer on , I’d recommend the trainers at . Good Luck!

Your tax dollars at work!

Have you noticed that there are real problems in the world? You know, things like terrorism, war, nuclear weapons, global warming, $3 dollar a gallon gas prices —you know, little problems like those. You’d think that our elected officials would have enough to keep them busy —wouldn’t you? Well guess what, instead of focusing on these problems what are they attacking? Online Gambling (4 hits).

That’s right, at the same time our kids are being maimed and killed in Iraq the president and his merry band of idiots are busy concerning themselves with crafting legislation to stop us from committing the horrible crime of playing poker (4 hits) in our living rooms. What’s next, will they find a way to keep us from smoking a cigarette while we watch the evening news?

Oh and don’t think for one split second that this is your government trying to protect you from the evils of online gambling (4 hits)!!! Nope: EVERY single piece of anti-gambling legislation has huge carve-outs to allow things like –Lotto and betting on horse racing — No, don’t be fooled, it’s all about money and more specifically the governments inability to collect tax dollars from these gambling sites. Don’t let ‘em fool you, if you want to play poker online – contact your local representatives and let them know!

Winter On Long Island

I woke up this morning to the coldest day of the year; they’re talking about a chance of on Friday. Ouch, can it really be on ? Well, I guess it’s about time…

Like most adults, I’m not looking forward to shoveling out my driveway, or sliding on my butt when I go out to get the mail, my son on the other hand can’t wait for that first decent sized snowstorm. At five, he’s still too young to really understand the extra work that comes along with a big snowfall; he just sees the fun in it.

Last year we did have a lot of fun in the snow. I took him sled riding on the same hill that I rode down when I was a kid. I remember telling him the old joke about how my older brother (his Uncle Rick) and I had to share one sled, and how “I had it on the way up and Uncle Ricky got to use it on the way down” —he really didn’t get it, so I had to explain it to him.

We also had fun working together constructing a snow fort that wound up being just tall enough for him to hide behind during our snowball fights. I also taught him the correct technique for shaping gobs of wet snow into snowballs —although his hands were too small to create anything that was even remotely effective. When we finally started our snowball fight – his aim and his range also proved to be pretty ineffective —mostly I just pretended to let him sneak up on me before blasting me with handfuls of snow. Afterwards, we’d head inside and warm up with mugs hot cocoa while watching Spongebob…

You know, maybe I’m looking forward to that first big snowfall also!

What to Look For When Buying Webhosting

It seems like everyone has a website these days, whether for personal reasons or to support a business or an organization. Also, by promoting online affiliate programs (134 hits), you can earn extra cash from your personal blogs/websites. There are so many options when it comes to webhosting that it can become overwhelming. The type of website you are building can narrow the search down but there are still thousands of hosts and multiple ways to get your presence on the web.

If you are new to the whole website world and just want to be visible on the web, a free host might be for you. This way you can learn how to get started and play around in the proverbial sandbox. Sites like still offer free websites with modest bandwidth and space in exchange for an ad placed on your pages. If you are more computer savvy, you can find a free shell account that will host your but you need to know a little bit of Unix and have some computer knowledge.

For owners, the question isn't whether to have a website but rather how to set one up. You have a few types of hosting to choose from depending on what your needs are. A small business or personal website would be fine with a shared host. This route is simple to set up and the prices are very affordable. For as little as $5 per month, you can have your site up and running with decent bandwidth and disk space. Bigger companies might prefer a virtual private server (VPS) or even . A VPS is shared with only a few other websites and you get your own server inside a server to run. With dedicated hosting, you get your very own server that you have full access to, but the downside is that you have to handle any problems that come up.

All of these hosts should provide a guaranteed uptime of usually over 99%. Large companies require 100% uptime and some hosts guarantee this, as well. Make sure you are aware of the cancellation policy. A good host should offer a monthly package so you can test out their services before you pay for a full year. Also make sure you have support at any hour of the day. Most hosts have an online support feature where you can talk to somebody right away.

If you are paying for a there are some other key features it should have. Many hosts have a web interface that you can manage your website from, including a file uploader. However, you will want FTP access to transfer files much quicker and easier. Make sure you have access to robots.txt so you can specify which pages will be crawled by search engines. Also, you need access to .htaccess so you can set up error pages such as 404. Any good host should have a good stats package so you can see where your hits come from and logs which should be archived and available 24/7. If you have multiple websites, you might want to look into a reseller account which can save you money and even make you money if you sell any hosting packages.

Every webhost and potential webmaster is different, so make sure you do your research and know exactly what you will need when shopping for a host. Before you know it, you'll have your own space on the web.

A Sag Harbor Halloween

Normally my wife and I will take our son trick or treating around our local neighborhood, going from house to house just like I did when I was a kid. This year however, my brother-in-law and sister-in-law invited my son and of course my wife and I to celebrate Halloween with them and their son – Style…

First off, on , Main St. in Sag Harbor become candy central! Most every local business joins the “Pumpkin Trail” and offers sweet treats to every costumed kid. Most of these shop owners themselves get dressed up.

Costumes ranged from the expected ghosts and goblins to some pretty creative ones, I saw two kids wearing homemade Ipod outfits, and another wore black pants and a real mailbox over his head -interesting.

The trip up and down Main St. took about an hour. After which we headed out to knock on a few doors. With my brother-in-law (a life long Sag Harbor resident) as our guide we hit a few choice homes for some more treats.

The Sag Harbor neighborhoods are a bit different then the more area I’m from. It gets awfully dark at night. Near my home, we have sidewalks and street lights. In Sag Harbor, you can go for blocks with only porch lights to guide you – the flashlight my (in the know) in-laws brought helped keep us safe.

Our trip off the beaten path led us to what seems to be a bona fide, Sag Harbor Halloween tradition. In the middle of a darkened street, an older couple stood grilling for everyone one who came by to enjoy. And make no mistake; people from all over Sag Harbor do come – every year. According to my brother-in-law that family (whose name I didn’t get) has offered hotdogs, apple cider and a place to sit, to all passer-bys for as long as he can remember. What a perfect way to cap off a night of trick or treating…

Afterwards we headed over to another Sag Harbor landmark – . Were we enjoyed some nice juicy burgers and a cold beer or two, before heading home…
