The Pie Great Long Island Pizza

The Pie

Looking for great pizza? Then you have to go to The Pie! Located on Main Street, in the heart of Port Jefferson, The Pie specializes in coal fired brick oven pizza. This is no ordinary pizza joint.

First off, you won’t find the usual pizza place menu options. There’s no chicken cutlet parm., or baked ziti. Essentially the entree menu

consists of a dozen or so pizzas, a calzone and a meatball hero. Hey, what else do you need?

So how is the pie? Well, the crust is crispy and thin and it chars up nicely in the coal fired oven. If you’re a purist, go with the Tomato and Mozzarella —that’s my favorite. Other decent choices are the “Supreme” topped with Bacon, Meatball, Sausage, Pepperoni, Prosciutto, it’s a lot of meat. I’ve also had the Wild Mushroom and Fresh Herbs pie – while very good, this was my least favorite of the three.

Not in the mood for pizza? Try the calzone. The calzone is made fresh, so it takes a little while longer then the pizza. It’s well worth the wait though. If you’re used to calzones that have been sitting on a shelf all day, then warmed up when you place your order —you’ll be amazed at what a fresh calzone actually tastes like. The calzone is huge, easily enough for two good sized appetites.

Oh, and don’t forget to try the garlic knots. They’re made fresh so their piping hot when they arrive. They’re pretty much perfect.
