East Meadow Woman Has Double Lung Transplant
A 28 year old East Meadow women who suffers from cystic fibrosis has received a new set of lungs. The woman who will celebrate her 29th birthday on Sunday is still on a respirator. Her sister, 27 year old Marisa Bishop died four months ago of the same disease.
Lanzaro, who has cystic fibrosis, was admitted in very serious condition to The Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan last month. Two weeks ago, her damaged lungs brought her to the top of the transplant list in New York State. A pair of lungs became available last week, but they weren't healthy enough.
